Timothy Lucas Certified as Six Sigma Master Black Belt

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 24, 2012) - Wake Tech instructor Timothy Lucas has received Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification from the Aveta Business Institute. Six Sigma is a highly-regarded approach to quality improvement and increased efficiency in business practices. Master Black Belt is the highest of four levels of Six Sigma certification, qualifying those who earn it to train, coach and mentor others. Lucas now teaches the Black Belt certification program – a first for Wake Tech – in the Business and Industry Center at the Western Wake Campus in Cary.

“Tim’s accomplishment in reaching Master Black Belt status puts Wake Tech into an elite group of institutions offering training at this level,” says Wayne Loots, dean of Business and Industry Services at the college. “The best part is that as a community college, we’re able to offer our program at a cost-effective price.”

Lucas has 25 years of leadership experience in business and industry. He received his MBA with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Ashford University in 2008, his certification in World Class Manufacturing Management from the UVA-Darden Business School in 1997 and his Bachelor of Arts from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1986. His certifications include Master Certificate in Supply Chain Management, Certified Lean Enterprise Expert, Certified TQM Facilitator, and ISO 9001 Certified Auditor.

“The important part of my work is being able to help others,” says Lucas. “especially those who are trying to get back into the workforce or accomplish more in their professional lives. Employees who are certified in Six Sigma add value to an organization, and companies recognize that.”

Wake Tech also offers Six Sigma’s Green Belt certification program, a prerequisite for Black Belt certification. Green Belt is offered in a hybrid format that blends classroom and online instruction. The program has attracted CEOs, middle managers, hourly employees and those who have faced layoffs. In many cases, certification has led to promotions or new positions.
